A landscape with a history.
The VICE Sports documentary follows Honnold’s climbing journey in Angola against the legacy of the country’s civil war. The setting asks for a wider frame than athletic achievement alone, bringing the surrounding country into the story of the climb.
An expedition, photographed.
Ted served as principal expedition photographer and contributed additional video. The film was directed by Abazar Khayami, with Pablo Durana as director of photography. The still photographs follow the expedition beyond the film’s running time, from the climbing itself to life on the road.
